Need for a Network

Local and subnational governments have a unique role and contribution to play in the advancement and implementation of national and global agreements and sustainable development laws, policies, strategies, programs and actions.
Waste creation and disposal is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. in order to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, global emissions must peak by 2020. To achieve this goal, swift and comprehensive action is needed at every level of government.
From enforcing policies and investing in infrastructure, to modifying the way, communities consume, there are numerous ways in which local governments can promote more sustainable waste management.

A network will allow member cities/ local government units to cultivate relationships between different cities as well within each cities. This will not just ensure exchange of learnings and best practices, but will  foster the creation of collective goal of accelerating zero waste movement in the world.
